Normandy Park
Normandy Park is a scenic coastal city situated in King County, Washington, nestled between the cities of Burien and Des Moines along the shores of Puget Sound. Established in the 1920s by the Seattle-Tacoma Land Company, it was envisioned as a planned residential community featuring French Normandy-style architecture, a yacht club, community beaches, and a golf course. The city was officially incorporated on June 8, 1953, and today spans approximately 3.32 square miles, with 2.50 square miles of land and 0.82 square miles of water.
Normandy Park is renowned for its natural beauty, offering over 100 acres of parkland, including six major parks and several nature preserves. Marvista Park and Marine View Park are popular destinations, providing residents with opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and enjoying panoramic views of Puget Sound. The city's commitment to green spaces is further exemplified by its annual Arbor Day Celebration, which features free tree giveaways, crafts, environmental education, and community engagement activities.
Governed by a council–manager system, Normandy Park places a strong emphasis on community involvement and sustainable development. The city's Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Trails (PROST) Plan, adopted in 2024, outlines a 20-year vision for enhancing recreational facilities and preserving natural habitats. This proactive approach ensures that Normandy Park remains a vibrant and environmentally conscious community for current and future residents.
